You have to sleep on your back with your head elevated at a 30-degree angle at least the first 48 to 72 hours after Sculptra injections. Sleeping in this position helps reduce strain on the treated areas and supports your skin as it starts to heal.
However, you can sleep on your side generally after 1 to 2 weeks of poly-L-lactic acid fillers, but it can vary depending on your doctor’s instructions. Side or stomach sleeping too early puts unnecessary pressure on the injection sites and affects the way it settles.
How Should You Sleep After Sculptra Fillers?
For optimal comfort and recovery, sleep on your back with your head elevated using an extra pillow or a wedge pillow. It reduces pressure, swelling and also prevents fluid from accumulating in one spot. You can use a travel neck pillow or place cushions on both sides of your torso if you generally roll while asleep.
Can I Sleep With a Sleep Mask After Sculptra Treatment?
Avoid wearing sleep masks generally for 3 to 7 days after PLLA injections to reduce unnecessary pressure and friction. However, you can use a 3D contoured mask or a loose silk eye cover after your doctor’s recommendation if you can’t sleep in the light. Make sure they don’t press against your temples, cheeks and treatment area. Apart from this, there are multiple other alternatives like using blackout curtains, window film and LED covers to block light.
The 5-5-5 Massage Rule
Follow the 5-5-5 massage rule, which means gently massaging the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day and for 5 days after treatment. This massage routine supports even product distribution under the skin. You can also do it before sleeping, but make sure to be gentle and massage in circular motions.
What Sleeping Positions Should You Avoid?
Make sure to avoid any sleeping position that puts direct pressure on the injection site. Side sleeping and sleeping face down (stomach), press your face into the pillow. It can worsen the temporary swelling and also cause irritation and discomfort.
Also, avoid lying completely flat on your back; keep your head slightly elevated while resting. Because fluid can still accumulate, swelling becomes more noticeable.
